Our Eye Care Clinic

Welcome to Dutchess Optometry! Our team of eye doctors in Poughkeepsie and Red Hook, along with our eye care staff, are here to care for all of your vision needs. We handle everything from adult and children's eye exams and hard-to-fit contact lenses, to eye emergencies, treatment of eye diseases and co-management of eye surgery such as LASIK.

Our History

Dutchess Optometry is one of the oldest optometric practices in the United States. Our practice was founded in Poughkeepsie in 1892 by Dr. C.H. Perkins. He was later joined by optometrist Atherton Marshall. The name "Perkins and Marshall" was synonymous with excellent eye care throughout the Hudson Valley.

Dr. Marshall's younger brother Henry joined the practice in the 1930s followed by Dr. Saul Polenberg in 1971. Dr. James G. Cayea opened our Red Hook office in 1977, allowing us to better serve both central and northern Dutchess County. Dr. Tracy Sheedy joined our practice in 2001, bringing her expertise in infant and children's vision. Dr.  Polenberg retired in 2014 and we have brought in Dr. Lappan as our new associate.
